About Malcolm Brown
NFL Player, Community Leader, Entrepreneur, Founding Member
Malcolm Brown was born into a military family in Biloxi, MS and bounced around plenty before finally settling in Texas just before high school. He lived in Mississippi, Florida, Turkey, Guam, San Antonio, and mostly Washington, D.C. until his father, Tommy, retired from the Air Force and moved the family to Cibolo, TX in 2005.
Brown attended Dobie Jr High School and then the newly opened Byron P. Steele High School in Cibolo, a suburb northeast of San Antonio.
While at Byron P. Steele, Malcolm excelled in both school and sports. His junior year was a true breakout on and off the field, winning the United States Achievement Academy’s National Language Arts Award and National Leadership and Service Award, while also beginning to receive nationwide recognition for his talents on the football field. Malcolm set every major record a running back could own while playing for the Knights, and by his senior year was the top ranked player in Texas and the 10th-ranked player in the nation.
He committed to attend and play football at The University of Texas in Austin before capping off his high school career with a state championship and All-American honors. He was named first-team 5A All-State and 5A Offensive Player of the Year by the Texas Sports Writers Association and the Associated Press, as well as first-team All-Texas High School by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.
Malcolm graduated from Byron P. Steele in the spring of 2011 and made his way to Austin that summer. Through highs and lows and everything in between, he worked to graduate from The University of Texas in the winter of 2014 with a degree in Kinesiology.
After earning an invite to the NFL Combine as part of the 2015 rookie draft class, Brown was signed by the St. Louis (now Los Angeles) Rams as an undrafted free agent. He spent almost an entire year on the Rams practice squad before signing to the active roster for the last game of the 15-16 season against the San Francisco 49ers. He remained on the active roster and a part of the Rams organization for 6 years and had great success.
In 2021, Malcolm signed with the Miami Dolphins, but in 2022 the Rams signed him right back and he finished the 22-23 season in Los Angeles.
Through his experience growing up in a military family, starring at a major university, and carving out a long and productive NFL career, Malcolm has established a firm belief that his support system and community are huge parts of his success. The value he sees in his friends and family inspired him to create a non-profit foundation to help others in need of that same vital support.
The Malcolm Brown Foundation endorses the butterfly effect and believes just one experience can change the trajectory of someone's life. With that as a guiding principle, the foundation seeks to create unique educational experiences that will connect others with a community they can depend on, and learn from, just as Malcolm has.
